HARLEM, Ga. () – On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, members of VFW Post 6445 took the time to honor fallen soldiers by placing U.S. flags on graves at Harlem Memorial Cemetery.

Ronald Gilchrist, commander of Harlem VFW Post 6445, reflected on the significance of this gesture, saying, “With 640,000 veterans passing away each year, according to the VA, it’s crucial we honor them on this day dedicated to veterans who’ve passed on.”

Amy McLeod, a veteran herself, emphasized the importance of remembrance: “These individuals served our country. Even though they have no surviving relatives to honor them, they deserve our respect and support, despite their absence.”

Kiera Wright expressed her motivation for participating: “Although I wasn’t alive during these conflicts, I feel compelled to honor those who sacrificed everything for future generations like mine, who they never met.”

Gilchrist poignantly added, “These veterans may not be with us today, but they endured experiences we’ve yet to face. Whether they perished in battle or survived the harsh realities of war, they are not forgotten.”
