ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida will stay locked in a wet and unsettled weather pattern, keeping rain chances elevated and helping the sea breeze spark numerous soaking thunderstorms Sunday afternoon.
Tonight
Scattered thunderstorms will drift slowly westward through the evening, with rain lingering in some neighborhoods until around 9 to 10 p.m. Conditions should turn drier by roughly 11 p.m. to midnight. Most areas will remain quiet overnight, although a few spotty coastal showers may develop on the persistent east-southeast onshore breeze. Overnight lows will settle in the mid-70s.
Sunday
A stalled front north of the region, combined with a mid-level low spinning over the Gulf, will keep Central Florida’s atmosphere loaded with moisture and instability. That setup will again enhance the afternoon sea breeze, leading to a busy storm pattern Sunday. The day will begin mainly dry with a mix of sunshine and clouds, though a few isolated showers may brush the east coast. By lunchtime, showers and storms are expected to develop near the I-95 corridor before growing stronger and more widespread across Central Florida during the mid-afternoon. The strongest storms could produce wind gusts up to 50 mph, frequent lightning and localized flooding. Storms should gradually weaken after 8 p.m., with drier weather returning by 10 to 11 p.m. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s before storms move in.

Next Week
With a similar pattern continuing over Florida as we move into next week, high moisture and instability continues to charge our sea breeze each afternoon for much of the week to come. Rain chances remain high through mid-week with rain chances gradually reverting back to a more “typical” pattern by the end of the upcoming week and into the following weekend. Highs will climb into the low 90s each afternoon.
