(KTLA) – Renowned hip-hop artist Rob Base has died at the age of 59 following a courageous battle with cancer. The news was confirmed through a heartfelt post on his official social media channels on Friday.

Born Robert Ginyard, Rob Base was one half of a legendary hip-hop duo from Harlem, teaming up with DJ E-Z Rock to create an indelible mark on the music industry.
Their most celebrated work, the 1988 hit single “It Takes Two,” became a defining track of the era. It not only soared into the top 40 but also achieved platinum status from the RIAA, securing its place as a timeless hip-hop anthem.
The duo is hailed for pioneering the crossover of rap into mainstream music, paving the way for future artists to reach wider audiences.
DJ E-Z Rock, whose real name was Rodney “Skip” Bryce, died at 46 on April 27, 2014 after complications from diabetes.
