SAVANNAH, Ga. () — This month, Savannah is welcoming a rare visit from a floating marvel of the past, offering both residents and visitors a chance to experience maritime heritage up close.
The storied 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA is set to dock on River Street, marking its first appearance in the city in over 130 years, turning heads and drawing enthusiasts from miles around.
Among the mere handful of vessels from its era still navigating the seas, ELISSA stands as one of the oldest active ships, a testament to nautical craftsmanship and history.
Most recently, ELISSA embarked from Galveston, Texas, taking a leading role in the majestic parade of Class A Tall Ships that sailed into New York Harbor for the iconic July 4 celebration.
Savannah will once again see ELISSA grace its waters, a momentous visit after her last tour in 1894. Officials note that this stop is a significant part of her Sail250 voyage, captivating all who come to witness her splendor.
She will be docked along the River Street waterfront from July 24-26. Visitors can take free deck tours from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, with evening ticketed events. From 6-8 p.m. Friday and Sunday, you can attend Tall Ship Happy Hour with pop-ups, Texas-based beer and wine and kid-friendly options.
