JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – On Sunday afternoon, the Kings Mountain Post 24 of the American Legion in Johnson City hosted a ceremony to mark National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
This event took place at the Johnson City/Washington County Veterans Memorial Park, paying tribute to those who served during the Vietnam War, particularly honoring those from the local area who sacrificed their lives.
Mary Engelman, the Commander of the American Legion in Johnson City, shared with News Channel 11 that the commemoration featured a wreath-laying at the Vietnam veterans’ list within the park, reading aloud the names of every veteran from Washington County, and unveiling a significant piece of military symbolism.
“We will present the POW/M.I.A. table,” Engelman explained. “This table symbolizes those who have yet to return home, and we remain committed to bringing every last person back.”
Engelman emphasized that ceremonies like this ensure that while some veterans may no longer be with us, their contributions are never forgotten.
