President Donald Trump is set to deliver a national address on Wednesday evening concerning the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to an announcement by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Leavitt shared on social media platform X that Trump will offer “an important update on Iran,” though she refrained from providing further specifics on the content of his address.
In remarks made on Tuesday, Trump expressed his anticipation that the United States would withdraw from Iran in the near future. “All I have to do is leave Iran, and we’ll be doing that very soon,” he remarked, referencing the surge in national gas prices, which NPR reports have reached $4 per gallon. Trump suggested that the U.S. could be exiting “very soon,” potentially within the next two to three weeks.
In contrast, the BBC reported that Trump has indicated a willingness to contemplate a ceasefire, contingent on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz remains “open, free, and clear.” He stated, “Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages.” Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign ministry has dismissed Trump’s assertions of a ceasefire request from their side, labeling them as “false and baseless.”
According to BBC, Trump has since stated he would consider a ceasefire in Iran “when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear,” adding, “Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!” However, Iran’s foreign ministry denied Trump’s claim that the country has asked for a ceasefire, calling the claim “false and baseless.”
