UPDATE, 8:40 AM – Early Friday morning, just after 2:30 AM, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request from the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) to assist in a high-speed chase on Interstate 20.
The pursuit concluded near mile marker 23, where the suspect, armed with a gun, exited the vehicle and fled toward the westbound lanes.
During the confrontation, the suspect aimed the firearm at deputies, prompting them to shoot.
After the incident, deputies provided medical assistance to the suspect, who was then transported to a nearby hospital by emergency medical services.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol will oversee the criminal charges related to this event.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called and will be handling the officer involved shooting.
Any additional information will be released by SLED or the SCHP.
No deputies were injured during the incident. No word on who he suspect is or their condition.

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. () – The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is currently on the scene of an officer involved shooting following a chase where they were assisting South Carolina Highway Patrol on I-20 at mile marker 23.
One suspect has been transported to the hospital. No other suspects are being sought at this time.
No deputies were injured during this incident.
Both east and west bound lanes of Interstate 20 are closed, traffic is being diverted at exit 22.
