Inclusive Play for All: Help Tolono Park District Transform West Side Park

In Tolono, Illinois, the local park is a hub of joy and excitement for most children. However, for kids with disabilities, enjoying it can often be hindered by obstacles and barriers. The Village of Tolono is embarking on a mission to change this reality.

For some time now, the park district has aspired to transform West Side Park into a more inclusive space. While they’d hoped to secure a grant to fund this initiative, they are now reaching out to the community for financial support. Their ambition is to revamp one of the park’s three play areas, ensuring it becomes a welcoming environment for all children, regardless of their abilities.

Jessica Robins, the Park District Secretary, emphasized the community’s desire for Tolono to be recognized as inclusive. “Our goal is not just to ease access for our own residents,” said Robins, “but also to ensure that visitors from other communities—whether they’re here for ball games or other events—can enjoy a space where they feel comfortable and included.”

The community-driven fundraiser is scheduled to continue through December, with an estimated goal of raising $250,000. For those interested in contributing to this cause, donations can be made online.
