SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Islands boys soccer team will be the No. 4 overall seed when the Class AAA tournament starts on Friday, April 25.
The Sharks are 12-7 overall, but they went a perfect 9-0 to capture the Region 3-AAA crown. However, after those nine wins, the team has stumbled. Islands has lost four of their last five matches headed into the state playoffs.
Critics could argue the region was easy, but head coach Justin Brantley says seven of the ten schools in the region qualified for the state playoffs.
The players feel they are ready to make a deep playoff run this season.
“People have started to realize that this isn’t something that lasts forever and that the season is going to come to an end,” senior midfielder Jack Stephans said. “We can either end it as winners or we can end it as losers. I think a lot of us want to end it as winners.”
“Traveling definitely makes it more difficult to play and the ability for us to play at home in front of people we know and close to where we live is just going to give us a huge advantage, I think,” said senior left wing Evan Narvaez.
Islands first round playoff match with Dawson County is Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. Islands match is the night cap of a doubleheader. Jenkins and Stone Mountain start at 5 p.m.
