Johnson County Shooting: Man Faces First-Degree Murder Charges, Says Sheriff

JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a shooting in Johnson County on Thursday.

According to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), officers arrived in the 800 block of Spear Branch Road just before 6 p.m. regarding a person found unresponsive at a residence.

Officers determined that the individual, identified by police as 60-year-old Kirby Proffitt, died due to a gunshot wound.

An investigation by the JCSO Criminal Investigation Division and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation led to the arrest of 55-year-old Kevin Proffitt.

Kevin Proffitt was arrested Friday morning on one count of first-degree murder, according to the sheriff’s office.

As of Friday, he’s being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $1 million bond.
