Kingsport Man Charged with Murder and Child Assault Following Toddler's Tragic Death

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A tragic case has emerged as a 20-year-old man stands accused of the heinous crimes of murder and rape involving a 14-month-old child, set to have occurred in 2024.

Previously, Kingsport police had launched an investigation following the child’s death, which has now led to serious charges against the suspect.

First-degree murder
2 counts of felony murder
Aggravated child abuse
Aggravated child neglect
Aggravated rape of a child
Aggravated criminal trespass

According to a grand jury presentment filed in Sullivan County court, Easton Vance has been charged with seven felony counts. The details of these charges stem from incidents that reportedly took place on October 21, 2024.

The grand jury detailed Vance’s alleged involvement in an aggravated criminal trespass, stating that he unlawfully entered or remained on the premises of Miller Village Apartments, despite being aware that he was prohibited from being there.

The name of the victim was redacted from the court documents.

In a news release, the Kingsport Police Department (KPD) stated Easton’s charges stemmed from an incident on Oct. 21, 2024, in the 3800 block of Eastline Drive. First responders found a 14-month-old boy unresponsive and attempted to revive him. The child was taken to Indian Path Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.

The KPD also confirmed Vance is 20 years old and a resident of Morristown.

As of Monday, Vance was being held in the Sullivan County Jail, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
