AUGUSTA, Ga () Step into Charletta Osborne’s class for Career Day, where her fourth-graders get a chance to explore real-world job opportunities beyond their textbooks.
“We’ve invited numerous professionals to introduce our students to various career paths they might pursue after graduation,” Osborne explains. “Today is exceptionally exciting because it provides a tangible answer to their question, ‘Why do I need to learn this?’ They can see firsthand the careers we discuss in class come to life.”
Osborne attributes her daily inspiration to the students themselves.
“They are naturally curious and express their thoughts and feelings openly,” she shares. “I appreciate their honesty. They’re quick to let you know if you’re having an off day or when you’re doing great.”
She ensures that her classroom is a welcoming place, fostering a joyful learning environment that motivates her students to engage and learn enthusiastically.
“I love to smile. I love to have fun. And so I bring that into my classroom.”
And none of this would be possible without her family. They are a key part of her success in and out of the classroom.
“My family means everything to me,” she says. “They’re the most supportive. My husband, I’m so thankful for him. Because he afforded me this opportunity for teaching. I came into this as a second career. It was a choice that I made. My son has been patient with me. When I come home, I’m doing schoolwork, like for school. And then I’m doing schoolwork because I’m advancing my education. And they just make the allowances for me.”
