(KTLA) – Renowned hip-hop artist Rob Base has died at the age of 59 following a courageous battle with cancer, as confirmed through a statement on his official social media channels.
The announcement celebrated his profound influence, stating, “Rob’s music, dynamic spirit, and enduring legacy were instrumental in shaping an entire generation, spreading joy to millions globally. Offstage, he was a devoted father, a cherished family man, a true friend, and a creative powerhouse whose influence will remain eternal.”
Born Robert Ginyard, Base was a key figure in the iconic hip-hop duo from Harlem, alongside DJ E-Z Rock.
Their 1988 hit “It Takes Two” remains a cornerstone of hip-hop, achieving top 40 success and earning platinum status from the RIAA.
This duo is hailed as trailblazers in bringing rap music into the mainstream, paving the way for its widespread popularity.
DJ E-Z Rock, whose real name was Rodney “Skip” Bryce, died at 46 on April 27, 2014 after complications from diabetes.
