Despite its status as a hit series on Paramount+, “Mobland” has been a hotbed of off-screen drama, enough to keep the gossip mills buzzing. The latest twist in this ongoing saga is the departure of its leading man, Tom Hardy, from the show.

According to Puck News, Hardy’s contentious relationship with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser has significantly affected the production, particularly during the filming of the second season. Reports suggest that Hardy’s issues were not just limited to the producers; he was frequently late to set and vocal about his dissatisfaction. Hardy was reportedly unhappy that the show, initially crafted to focus on his character, had evolved into an ensemble piece featuring other major stars, including the illustrious Dame Helen Mirren. Tensions escalated until Butterworth, fed up with Hardy’s conduct, threatened to step down, leading to Hardy’s dismissal from the series.

While Hardy’s representatives have yet to comment on these reports, it’s challenging to envision a “Mobland” Season 3 without his portrayal of Harry Da Souza. As the central figure of the series, his absence poses a significant challenge in maintaining the show’s appeal and drawing viewers back for more.

The future impact of losing Harry Da Souza, the show’s main character, remains uncertain. With only the first season currently available for audiences, and the second season wrapped up but not yet released, the third season is only in its early planning stages.

The inaugural season of the British crime drama introduced audiences to Da Souza as the go-to fixer for the notorious Harrigan family, embroiled in a fierce rivalry with the Stevenson clan. Harry’s character is marked by his toughness and resourcefulness, qualities that are essential in navigating the treacherous waters of criminal feuds. As Season 1 concludes, a gang war looms, demanding Harry’s brute-force ingenuity and strategic acumen, alongside the complex political maneuvering of other key players.

Mobland only has a single season available so far

It’s impossible at the moment to tell how the absence of Harry Da Souza, the primary protagonist, might impact the future of a show like “Mobland.” As of this writing, only Season 1 is available for public consumption, with Season 2 completed and Season 3 in the conceptual stages.

The British crime drama’s first outing saw Da Souza act as a fixer for the criminal Harrigan family, who are caught in a blood feud with the Stevenson dynasty. Harry is tough, no-nonsense and knows how to get the job done — but neither the Stevensons nor the Harrigans make his life easy. A gang war looms on the horizon by the end of Season 1, requiring brute-force ingenuity from Harry and a whole lot of political maneuvering on the part of everyone else.

Hardy has a reputation for being difficult to work with, but since Harry is the social glue that holds the show’s universe together, it’s even more perplexing to figure out how the series might replace him. But that’s a problem that a very different “Mobland” fixer will have to work out soon enough.
