BLUFFTON, S.C. ( ) — In an uplifting gesture of community support, cancer patients at a Bluffton hospital received special care packages from local partners who aimed to brighten their day on Wednesday.
Blood Cancer United teamed up with AutoNation Subaru Hilton Head for their Subaru Loves to Care program, collaborating with the St. Joseph’s/Candler Bluffton Campus. This initiative aimed to offer comfort and encouragement to those undergoing cancer treatments.
Participants provided custom-made blankets and pillows, along with thoughtful care kits. These kits contained a variety of comforting items: a lunch cooler, a coloring book, fuzzy socks, a silk eye mask, a stress ball, a foldable water bottle, and heartfelt handwritten notes.
Dr. Gary Thomas, who leads the medical oncology department at St. Joseph’s/Candler Bluffton Campus, acknowledges that facing cancer treatment is a difficult experience. Since opening six years ago, the campus has offered Lowcountry residents vital treatment options, enabling patients to remain near their loved ones and support networks during such demanding times.
