In the quiet community of Casey, Illinois, an unsettling discovery was confirmed by local law enforcement—a man who had been missing has now been found deceased. The news has left residents grappling with a somber reality.
Frank Mumford, aged 76, was last spotted at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at the intersection of Alabama Avenue and NE 10th Street. His disappearance prompted a widespread appeal from both the Casey Police Department and the Illinois State Police, as they urged the public to assist in locating him.
Authorities reported that Mumford was driving a white 2019 GMC Truck at the time of his disappearance and noted that he had a medical condition that heightened his vulnerability. This detail added a layer of urgency to the search effort.
A week after he vanished, the Casey Police Department delivered the tragic update that Frank Mumford had been located, but regrettably, he was no longer alive. This announcement brought a heartbreaking close to the search while leaving unanswered questions in its wake.
“It is with great sadness that we share that Frank Mumford has been located and is deceased. We extend our sincere condolences to Mr. Mumford’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the police department said. “The Casey Police Department would like to thank everyone who shared this post and assisted in the search. Jennifer Phipps, Cumberland County Coroner, said Mumford had been found inside his vehicle in a creek in Cumberland County that had previously been flooded. State Police located the vehicle using a search and rescue plane.
