HEPHZIBAH, Ga. () – A 9-month old child is recovering after he tested positive for fentanyl.
According to reports, Richmond County Deputies responded to Augusta University Medical Center emergency room in reference to an overdose.
Deputies spoke to the victim’s mother, Rosa Solis-Garcia, 37, who said her son found a $20 bill hidden under her pillow. She said she took then money away, but it wasn’t long before she notice the child began to act strange. Solis-Garcia said her son’s lips were turning blue and his skin was becoming pale.
At that time Solis-Garcia’s boyfriend, Thomas Wright III, 41, arrived at the home and began to give the child CPR, while 911 was contacted.
The woman told deputies that she believes the $20 bill had something on it that caused the child to become sick.
Medical staff at the hospital confirmed the child had been exposed to fentanyl.
According to warrants filed against Wright and Solis-Garcia, Solis-Garcia admitted that Wright repeatedly used narcotics in their home, and she admitted that they let their 9-month-old play with currency contaminated with fentanyl.
The warrants state that Solis-Garcia was found with fentanyl, as well as a cut straw used to take the drug, in her purse.
Both Solis-Garcia and Wright are charged with Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree, and Solis-Garcia is also being held for I.C.E.
