In a recent announcement, a company based in New York has initiated a recall of approximately 18,000 portable electronic fans amid concerns of fire hazards.
The recall involves the Merkury Innovations Hot + Cool Heating and Cooling Fan, which was available for purchase at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Sierra stores throughout the United States. These fans, priced at $30, were sold from October 2024 through October 2025, as detailed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission last week.
“The fan can overheat, posing a risk of serious injury or death from a fire hazard,” the CPSC warned.
Merkury Innovations, of New York, New York, has received two reports of fans catching fire when plugged in, including one report of smoke damaging property. No injuries have been reported so far.
Consumers are advised to stop using the fans immediately and to contact Merkury for a refund. For registration and disposal instructions, consumers should go to this link.
