The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert concerning specific dinosaur-shaped frozen chicken nuggets sold nationwide under a Walmart store brand. Testing revealed these nuggets might contain potentially hazardous levels of lead.

Although a formal recall has not been initiated, as the product is no longer available on store shelves, officials are advising consumers to check their freezers for the nuggets.

The alert pertains to 29-ounce packages of Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets. These were produced on February 10 and carry a “best if used by” date of February 10, 2027, as per FSIS information.

The products in question bear the lot code 0416DPO1215 and the establishment number P44164, and were distributed to Walmart stores across the United States.

State officials discovered the concern during routine surveillance sampling, and the nuggets were produced by Dorada Foods, according to health authorities.

According to federal officials, the nuggets may contain lead levels up to five times higher than the interim reference level established by the Food and Drug Administration for children. Health experts warn that there is no safe level of lead exposure.

Lead exposure can be especially harmful to pregnant women, infants and young children, potentially damaging developing brains and nervous systems and causing long-term health problems.

The FSIS urged consumers not to eat the product and to either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions can contact Dorada Foods or call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at (888) 674-6854.
