URBANA, Ill. – The bustling Champaign County Fair opened its gates on Saturday morning, introducing a significant change that is set to impact a substantial number of visitors.
For attendees aged 13 and above, admission is priced at $8. A noteworthy addition this year is a rule targeting fairgoers under the age of 17. In a bid to bolster safety, all individuals in this age group must be accompanied by a companion aged 18 or older, who is required to stay on the fairgrounds throughout the visit.
According to fair organizers, this newly implemented safety measure aims to ensure the well-being of young attendees.
“This not only reassures our security team and the sheriff’s department but also our fair staff,” remarked Champaign County Fair Board President Terry Lemke. “In case of any incidents, whether it’s an injury or something else, knowing the kids are with someone responsible allows us to quickly locate and inform the parents or guardians as needed.”
Guests found on the property without a chaperone may be removed from the fair. The fair will run through Saturday, Aug. 1.
