NORTH AUGUSTA, SC ()- People who live near Ascauga Lake and Sudlow Lake Roads in North Augusta filled the seats during the planning commission meeting Wednesday,
Some went before the board to oppose a potential rezoning they say would change their neighborhood.
” it’s going to add a lot of increase traffic speed just dangerous for the children because our neighborhood doesn’t have speed humps or speed bumps and we don’t need them because everybody that’s in our neighborhood respects the speed and that there being children around” said Robert Lewis.
a developer is requesting to rezone nearly 130 acres of land near Sudlow crossing.
The neighborhood has 75 homes.
More than 60-residents signed a petition to oppose the request. During the meeting the developer answered questions from board members and took input from the public.
“They didn’t come forth with a secondary plan if they get denied the rezoning so that just didn’t seem kind of well prepared on their side of it and then he kind of pointed out that if they don’t get the rezoning they’re going to walk away from the whole project” said Lewis.
After a full discussion, commissioners made a motion to decline the rezoning.
“We were happy i could tell everybody from our neighborhood was happy and the people in the surrounding neighborhoods that came tonight” said Lewis.
