APOPKA, Fla. – An Orange County deputy was taken into custody on Friday in Apopka, facing allegations of domestic violence, as per the sheriff’s office report.
According to official records, Shawn Ellis is charged with battery.
The sheriff’s office detailed in a news release that Shawn Ellis joined the force in September 2024, serving in the Uniform Patrol Division.
Following the arrest, Ellis has been stripped of his law enforcement duties and reassigned to administrative tasks. This change will remain in effect while the criminal proceedings unfold, after which the sheriff’s office plans to launch its own internal investigation, the release further explains.
“Domestic violence is unacceptable in our community and within our agency. We pledge a thorough and open investigation into these charges, with the findings to be shared with the public,” declared Sheriff John Mina. “Every deputy at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is accountable to the same laws they are sworn to uphold.”
