Parents Arrested After Toddler Found Near Volusia County Retention Pond, Deputies Say

Child now in the care of a grandparent, both parents facing charges according to Volusia Sheriff’s Office

DELTONA, Fla. – Two parents have been arrested after their 4-year-old child was found walking through a retention pond in Deltona, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded Saturday morning and quickly located the child in the water. They pulled the 4-year-old to safety before finding the child’s home, according to authorities.

Inside the residence, deputies reported finding unsanitary conditions, including animal waste, a roach infestation and mold. Deltona Animal Control took custody of a caged dog that deputies described as neglected, while a grandparent took custody of the child.

Both parents were arrested on charges of child neglect and animal cruelty, deputies said.

Authorities have been contacted for additional information, including the names of the parents. Check back for updates.
