Sanford Health hosts Doc Talk on heart health

BISMARCK, N.D. () — Sanford Health is hosting a Doc Talk to promote heart health awareness for American Heart Month.

According to a news release, interventional cardiologist Nayan Desai, M.D. is giving the free presentation about heart failure and heart disease on February 27.

The talk will include topics of common conditions that lead to failure and disease, prevention tips, and treatment developments.

Before the presentation, free blood pressure testing and refreshments will be available from 4:30-5 p.m.

For those attending in person, it will take place in the Basin Electric Auditorium #304 in the NECE Building on the Bismarck State College campus. If you are unable to attend in person, you can still attend via Webex.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death all around the world, and American Heart Month is a crucial reminder to focus on preventative measures and education of a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Screenings are recommended for postmenopausal women and people ages 40-75 with these risk factors:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking history
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Family history of early coronary artery disease
