SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Groves High’s new practice field will be turf as the Savannah Chatham Public County School Board approved the funding for multiple change orders at the April 10 board meeting.
According to the agenda item, the planning originally called for a grass practice field, but since all the other fields in the county are artificial turf, the decision was made to convert Groves’ practice field to artificial turf as well. The cost of the field is $1.1 million. This is the second change order for the athletic facilities. There was also a third change order approved for the facilities because the new high school will now house sixth graders through twelfth graders. These changes include new casework, hardware revisions, signage modifications, additional wall display boards, fencing, and added security measures. The cost is an additional $1.8 million.
The new total amount for the cost of Groves’ new athletic facilities is just north of $33.7 million. A completion date of spring 2025 was announced in the March capital improvements committee meeting.
