SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — As his high school athletic career nears its end, Shelbyville’s Will Nohren, a two-time IHSA state champion and future Iowa track and field athlete, is savoring the last moments of his high school sports journey.
Nohren, a senior standout for the Rams, achieved a personal best in the high jump with a remarkable 7.25 feet during the indoor season, placing him among the top ten nationally. This outdoor season, he has equaled his state-winning high jump record and surpassed his previous long jump achievements.
Reflecting on how a nationally-ranked athlete leaves a legacy in a small town of fewer than 5,000 residents, Nohren emphasizes the importance of enjoying the sport. “I want to teach my teammates that to succeed, you have to have fun and really enjoy the sport. It’s essential to love what you do to improve,” Nohren explained. “If you don’t enjoy being out there every day, you won’t have the motivation to get better.”
Looking ahead, Nohren and the Rams are set to compete in the IHSA Class 1A Tuscola Sectional, kicking off on Wednesday, May 20.
