CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign County residents will soon be able to sign up for a unique spring-cleaning opportunity.

Every year, many people clean out their closets and get rid of old books or decorations to declutter as warmer weather rolls around. Now, Champaign County residents will also have the chance to recycle old electronics like TVs, microwaves, holiday string lights and more.

Online registration opens April 1 for Champaign County’s Spring Residential Electronics Collection event. After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email and/or text. Then, you’ll receive a postcard, which serves as your “ticket,” in the mail 10-14 days before the event.

The event will take place May 17 from 8 a.m. to noon at Parkland College. It’s hosted by Champaign County, the City of Champaign, City of Urbana and Village of Savoy.

On the morning of the event, use the Duncan Road Entrance into Parkland. Then, follow the red signs. A map will also be provided on your postcard.

Items that will be accepted include (but is not limited to):

  • TVs (all types, sizes, & shapes)
  • Computers
  • Laptops
  • Tablets, iPads, kindles
  • Monitors (all types)
  • Printers
