CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) – Excitement is in the air as two local teams from the WCIA coverage area have clinched spots in the IHSA baseball state finals.
Tuesday witnessed a flurry of Super-Sectional games across Illinois after inclement weather led to multiple postponements on Monday.
In Class 2A, St. Joseph-Ogden secured a commanding 9-0 victory over Williamsville, booking their ticket to the state semifinals. The clash between the Spartans and the Bullets took place on the Lincoln Land campus in Springfield. Meanwhile, at the same venue, Routt Catholic from Jacksonville emerged victorious against Nokomis with an 8-5 win, progressing to the 1A semifinals.
In another 1A showdown in Bloomington, Armstrong-Potomac faced a tough match against Tremont, resulting in a 9-1 defeat.
The eagerly anticipated 1A and 2A state baseball tournaments will be hosted at Illinois Field on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign.
Semifinals are Friday, June 12, followed by championship games and third place contests on Saturday.
SJO will play Ottawa-Marquette at 7 p.m. on Friday. Routt Catholic will play Tremont at 10 a.m.
