SAVANNAH, Ga. () — As the Fourth of July nears, the city of Savannah is reminding residents of the laws and to use caution if using fireworks this year.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the only safe way to view fireworks is to attend a professional show.

If choosing to use fireworks yourself, city and state law allows fireworks to be used only between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on July 3 and July 4.

Fireworks can only be used by individuals 18 and older.

As for where fireworks can be used, they are not permitted on public roads, highways, indoors, in parks, at historic sites or property owned by the state of Georgia or city of Savannah.

In addition, fireworks cannot be used within 100 yards of an electric plant, water treatment plant, gas stations, flammable liquids, a public use air facility, healthcare facility or a prison or jail.

Celebratory gunfire is also prohibited.

Above all else, exercise caution.
