MAROA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Maroa Fire Department has released further information about the crash at U.S. 51 and Washington Streets.

Department officials said the crash happened at 7 a.m. and involved two vehicles — a box truck and a semi-truck. No one was hurt, but oil had spilled, and “several” tires from the box truck were also dispersed at the wreck site.

Southbound traffic is being diverted off the highway and through Maroa.

MAROA, Ill. (WCIA) — Traffic is being diverted off of Route 51 in Maroa following a crash involving an oil spill Monday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection with Washington Street. Chief Robert Fitzgerald posted about the incident on Facebook around 8 a.m. and asked people to avoid the area.

Fitzgerald mentioned Wood Street as an alternative route; this would take traffic into the main part of Maroa. He reminded drivers that the speed limit through town is 30 miles per hour.

Fitzgerald and other police officials were not available for further comment when WCIA called the Maroa Police Department.

This is a developing story. We will share updates as we learn more.
