Tragic Aiken Car Accident Claims Life of Teen on Saturday

A tragic incident unfolded in Aiken County, South Carolina, resulting in the death of a local teenager. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash.

The accident occurred on the evening of Saturday, May 23, at approximately 5:45 p.m. It took place at the crossroads of South Hankinson Street and Atomic Road, a location now marked by the somber events of that day.

The collision involved two vehicles: a Polaris utility vehicle and a 2020 Nissan Sentra. Each vehicle was significantly impacted by the crash, leaving one young life tragically lost.

The coroner’s office has identified the victim as 15-year-old Axel K. Ulteig, a resident of Aiken, who was a passenger in the utility vehicle. This tragic loss has undoubtedly shaken the local community as investigations continue to unravel the details of the incident.

According to the coroner’s office, the passenger of the utility vehicle was identified as 15-year-old Axel K. Ulteig of Aiken.

Investigators say the utility vehicle was attempting to cross Atomic Road when it was struck by the Sentra traveling east.

Ulteig was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:05 p.m. from injuries sustained in the crash.

His body will be sent to Newberry for an autopsy.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing the investigation.
