In Tuscola, Illinois, Kamden Flenner is gearing up for what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to his high school track career. As he prepares for his final season, Flenner is pulling out all the stops to make a strong return to the state finals.
“I’ve really been focusing on weight training, something I hadn’t done much before,” Flenner shared, reflecting on his senior year with Tuscola’s esteemed track and field team.
Last year, Flenner was part of the silver-medal-winning 4×200-meter relay team. This season, he has qualified for the state championships in an impressive array of events: two relays and two individual races, each one secured with a sectional victory.
“I like to think of it as putting money in the bank,” Flenner explained. “When I’m pushing through those intense gym workouts, I’m making deposits, and now it’s time to see the returns.”
The Tuscola team is set to showcase their talents at the Class 1A boys’ preliminaries on Thursday, May 28, at EIU’s O’Brien Field.
