JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois State Fire Marshal is currently examining the circumstances surrounding the death of a 66-year-old man who perished in a house fire on Thursday evening in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Fire Department reported to WCIA that they received a call concerning a structure fire on Walnut Street around 6:11 p.m. En route, they were alerted to a potential victim trapped inside the residence.

Firefighters arrived on the scene by 6:14 p.m., where they encountered smoke emerging from the open front door. The crew quickly deployed a handline after identifying multiple areas within the house exhibiting smoldering flames.
