Volunteer High School Football Team Sets Sights on a Promising Future

CHURCH HILL, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Volunteer High School’s football team has recently been thrust into the limelight due to scrutiny from both the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) and the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office. However, both Hawkins County Schools and the Falcons’ head coach, Jeremy Wagner, remain optimistic about the team’s future, expressing hope for better days ahead.

The TSSAA imposed probation on the Falcons after discovering that coach Wagner had inappropriately reached out to a player from Cherokee High School and his father, and even contacted a university on the player’s behalf.

In response to the ruling, both Wagner and Matt Hixson, the Director of Schools for Hawkins County, expressed their agreement with the decisions made by the TSSAA and the comptroller’s office. Despite the setback, they are confident that the Falcons’ football team is destined for a promising future with many achievements yet to come.

“This is a learning opportunity for me,” Wagner stated. “We’re committed to moving forward, growing, and strengthening our team together.”
