Washington County Sheriff Foils Contraband Smuggling: Pizza, Phones, and Drugs Seized

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has apprehended multiple individuals following an incident suspected to involve a contraband drop-off at Washington State Prison earlier this week.

Early Friday morning, around 3:30 a.m., a deputy from Washington County observed a vehicle behaving suspiciously near Davisboro. Upon initiating a traffic stop, authorities uncovered marijuana and a firearm within the vehicle.

“During the traffic stop, deputies discovered marijuana and a firearm,” the Sheriff’s Office reported. “Further investigation unveiled signs suggestive of a potential contraband drop-off in the vicinity of Washington State Prison.”

A subsequent search of the surrounding area was conducted, with K9 units leading deputies to uncover a variety of items.

Authorities reported the recovery of nearly three pounds of tobacco, over four pounds of methamphetamine, 45 vapes, 88 cellphones with chargers, a flashlight, magnets, basketballs, a machete, a bottle of liquor, and a medium meat lovers pizza.

These individuals were arrested in connection with the incident as follows:

Monica Bell, 48 and homeless, charged with Trafficking in Meth, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Crossing Guard Lines, Trading with Inmates, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, Items Prohibited by Inmates, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, two counts Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, all felonies.

Courtney Rome, 38 of Norcross, charged with Trafficking in Meth, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Crossing Guard Lines, Trading with Inmates, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, Items Prohibited by Inmates, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, two counts Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, all felonies.

Michael Martin, 43 of Ellenwood, charged with Trafficking in Meth, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Crossing Guard Lines, Trading with Inmates, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, Items Prohibited by Inmates, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, two counts Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, all felonies.

Christina Buchan-Shields, 32 and homeless, charged with Trafficking in Meth, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Crossing Guard Lines, Trading with Inmates, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, Items Prohibited by Inmates, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

This investigation is ongoing.
