JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — As the dust settles on Tuesday night’s primaries, both the Washington County Republicans and Democrats are gearing up for what promises to be a dynamic general election in August.

Brad Batt, representing the Washington County Democratic Party, acknowledged the lack of competition in their primary. However, he emphasized that the upcoming general election will present a different landscape as the party aims to increase its presence by fielding more candidates.

“We’re out there engaging with everyone,” Batt remarked. “While there’s a strong focus on national politics, it’s important to remember that those in Washington, D.C., aren’t necessarily prioritizing Northeast Tennessee. Our Democrats are prepared to bring their message to the forefront.”

Meanwhile, Danielle Goodrich, the Washington County Republican Party Chair, highlighted the efforts underway to boost voter turnout for the August election.

“This election is shaping up to be more competitive than what we’re accustomed to,” Goodrich noted. “We need to put in the effort to mobilize voters and maintain Tennessee’s and Washington County’s status as Republican strongholds.”

The county general election will be held on Aug. 6.
