SAVANNAH, Ga () – We all get angry. It’s natural, but sometimes anger can become a problem in our lives. That’s why this Wellness Wednesday, we’re having the first of two conversations about understanding anger and learning what interventions can help you navigate it.
As always, Mary Jo Horton, the manager of Behavioral Health and Memorial Health, helps us navigate this discussion.
Below are her notes. Be sure to join us next week as we take a closer look at anger and when you should seek help in dealing with it.
Understanding anger
– Like all emotions, not good or bad, just present
– The emotion is not the problem, it’s our narrative and behavior
– Anger is always present with other emotions
– Lashing out of anger and denial of anger is the opposite side of the same coin
Interventions for anger
– Recognizing it is simply an emotion that will pass
– Can be used to connect and evidence values
– Explore the connected emotions to understand their meaning
– Lean into ways to experience it safely and in a helpful manner
