The Westville Tigers softball team is once again demonstrating their prowess on the field, continuing their tradition of success with a remarkable start to the 2026 season. Having already secured 14 wins against just 3 losses, they are well on their way to achieving a fourth consecutive season with over 25 victories.

Despite their impressive record, the team is keen on enhancing their offensive consistency. However, their solid defensive play has been a cornerstone of their success. “We pride ourselves on minimizing errors and ensuring accurate throws,” explained senior shortstop Jazmyn Bennett. “Our rigorous practice sessions pay off during games, allowing us to perform smoothly and cohesively as a unit.”

Head coach Brandon Zaayer acknowledges that the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. “We’ve faced some obstacles early on,” he admitted. “Yet, the team is showing remarkable growth—not just in terms of winning games, but in fostering a strong, collective spirit. They’re embracing a ‘we over me’ mentality, focusing on teamwork and personal development.”

With such a strong foundation and a commitment to improvement, the Westville Tigers are poised for another victorious season, further cementing their reputation as a formidable force in high school softball.

“Things have been off to a little bit of a rocky start, but they’re showing a lot on how to change the culture and develop as a team, not necessarily based on what results are on the field, but also as individuals really embracing the we over me mindset,” head coach Brandon Zaayer said.

Westville is looking to win its first regional title since 2006.
