As we kick off the first official weekend of summer, expect classic summertime weather. Afternoon highs will hover in the low 90s, with heat indices pushing toward, if not reaching, the triple digits this afternoon and again on Sunday. High pressure building in from the north will drive Gulf moisture into the region, bringing a slight chance for a stray shower or thunderstorm. These will be hit-or-miss at best so consider yourself lucky if you catch one!
Looking ahead to Monday, a “high pressure sandwich” sets up shop. With high pressure strengthening from both the north and east, a developing “heat dome” will dominate the region. This means plenty of sunshine, dry conditions, and rising temperatures throughout the week. By late week, highs will soar into the upper 90s, with heat indices potentially nearing 110°. It’s likely we’ll see our first heat advisories of the season.
As we continue to trend warmer and warmer, don’t forget the essentials:
- Stay hydrated and seek shade when possible
- Wear light-colored, breathable clothing
- Take breaks from outdoor activities
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
- Never leave children or pets in hot vehicles
- Never walk pets during the heat of the day where their paws could burn
Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy the summer sunshine responsibly!
