With “Moon Knight” garnering impressive scores of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and 88% on the Popcornmeter, fans were hopeful that Oscar Isaac might reprise his role as the Fist of Khonshu in a second season on Disney+. However, since 2022, there has been no significant progress on this front. The reason? Marvel Studios has different plans for the character, steering away from a new season.
In an interview in February 2025 with ComicBook.com, Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum revealed that Moon Knight would be integrated more deeply into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Our focus has shifted,” Winderbaum explained. “We’re creating shows that can function as annual releases, similar to traditional television. While I would love to see a second season of ‘Moon Knight,’ there are broader plans for the character in the future.”
Winderbaum didn’t provide specifics on when or how Moon Knight will reappear, but it’s clear that the MCU has undergone numerous transformations recently, such as the transition from “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” to “Avengers: Doomsday.” Plans for Moon Knight might have been adjusted as part of these broader developments.
Given the unresolved storylines from “Moon Knight,” many anticipate Oscar Isaac’s return to tie up loose ends. His performance was highly praised, and it would be unfortunate to lose him due to scheduling conflicts. Fortunately, Isaac continues discussions with Marvel Studios, including talks about a potential role in a “Midnight Sons” film.
Will Oscar Isaac return as Moon Knight in Midnight Sons?
A “Midnight Sons” movie could see Moon Knight teaming up with other supernatural Marvel heroes like Blade, Ghost Rider, and Man-Thing. This film might offer a creative avenue to weave these darker characters, including the Fist of Khonshu, into the MCU narrative. Although a second season of “Moon Knight” isn’t in the cards, this new direction could prove to be an exciting alternative.
“There was an interesting talk about ‘Midnight Sons,’” Isaac told the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. “Tonally, it’s very important, because we’re playing with real stuff. It’s expressing something very real, and challenging, and difficult. I feel if you’re going to go, you got to take it really seriously as well. Even though it’s a crazy comic book, that’s what it’s trying to do. It’s doing both of those things at once.”
A “Midnight Sons” film would allow Moon Knight the opportunity to team up with other supernatural Marvel characters, such as Blade, Ghost Rider, and Man-Thing. In many ways, it could provide the solution for how to incorporate all these darker heroes, and not just the Fist of Khonshu, into the MCU. So while “Moon Knight” Season 2 is off the table, the trade-off might be worth it.
