Fingers were crossed across the nation upon hearing that President Joe Biden was delivering remarks at the funeral of former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on Tuesday.
O’Connor died on December 1 at the age of 93. Appointed by President Ronald Reagan, O’Connor was the first woman to sit on the United States Supreme Court.

Biden is probably the last person you want to bring in to speak about anything, given his propensity for gaffes and incoherence, especially on such a serious occasion where soberness is required.

Fortunately, Biden got her name and the fact that she was the first woman on the Court correct and he managed to do it without talking about himself or checking his watch. He also managed to stick to his notes and not freelance, so he did better than normal. Maybe the long weekend in Delaware helped a little. But he managed to end up apologizing in the church for “[his] language.”

Biden remarked that O’Connor “empowered generations of women in every part of American life” and proved that a woman could do anything a man could do, but “many times do it a hell of a — heck of a lot better. Excuse me, Father.” He then apologized to the priest for saying “hell.”
He praised her “desire for civility,” which is ironic given his attacks and demonizing of millions of Americans because they have different political beliefs than he does. But considering the many speeches and events where Biden has veered off on bizarre tangents and misidentified people who are part of his administration, this was a pretty solid effort on his part.
