Bill Barr says he will back Trump in 2024 because the 'far left' is a bigger threat to democracy (despite calling him a crook and saying he would jump off a bridge if Donald was the nominee)

Former Trump attorney general Bill Barr announced that he will support Trump in November, after quitting in the last days of his administration and denouncing Trump repeatedly in public over his actions leading up to January 6.

Barr, 73, made the comments on Fox News after telling NBC flat out last year that ‘I have made clear that I strongly oppose Trump for the nomination and will not endorse Trump.’

The longtime Republican also indicated how had struggled with the binary choice being presented by the two major party candidates. ‘I’ll jump off that bridge when I get to it,’ he said.

‘The Biden administration is in fact the greater threat to democracy,’ the former AG told Fox News host Neil Cavuto on Saturday, during a critical period leading up to the start of the first ever criminal trial of a former president.

He cited the influence of the ‘far left,’ during a campaign in which Biden has been taking heat from a growing pro-Palestinian faction, on a weekend when the House pushed through a package of bills Biden called for with military aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

Barr, who has borne public insults from Trump since their break in December of 2020, was sounding sanguine about many of Trump’s policies while in office.

‘But at the end of the day, you have to remember I was serving in his administration,’ he told Cavuto on his ‘Cavuto Live’ show.  ‘I was fine with his policies. I think his policies were good policies. My problems came with his behavior, which I found very troubling after the election.’

Barr’s testimony to the House January 6 committee provided bombshell video during televised hearing. He said he told Trump his claims of widespread election fraud were ‘bull****’. Those claims are at the heart of criminal indictments Trump is now facing in Georgia and Washington, D.C.

But on Fox, Barr said the threat posed by Biden and the left was greater.

‘I think that they have a totalitarian temper. They have bought into the progressive movement. And they’re trying to squelch opposition and freedom of speech,’ he said.

‘It’s a heavy-handed bunch of thugs in my opinion, and that’s where the threat is,’ said Barr, who stood with Trump during his infamous bible photo during George Floyd protests across from the White House.

He said he was ‘not happy’ with the choice of Trump and Biden, and called it a ‘terrible choice.’

He called Trump the person who would do the ‘least harm of the country.’

He called the Biden administration the ‘greater threat to democracy.’

Cavuto pointed out that Barr said publicly that Trump ‘knew well he lost the election’ and called Trump’s actions after the January 6 indictment ‘nauseating’ and ‘despicable’ and that he shouldn’t be ‘anywhere near the oval office.’

‘I have trouble squaring that,’ said Cavuto.

‘I don’t think Biden should be anywhere near the Oval Office, that’s the fact,’ Barr retorted.

He has been signaling his move toward Trump. Last week he said ‘I will support the Republican ticket,’ using language similar to that used by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who hasn’t spoken with Trump since January 6 but ultimately endorsed him.

‘Trump may be playing Russian roulette but a continuation of the Biden administration is national suicide in my opinion,’ Barr said.

Barr resigned from his post effective two days before Christmas, 2020, after publicly contradicting Trump’s claims of a ‘rigged’ election.
