Charlie Kirk tells Tucker Carlson ‘Twitter Files’ confirm his suspicion that he was being censored

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk joined Fox News host Tucker Carlson to discuss the breaking news that Twitter ‘blacklisted’ his and other right wingers accounts. 

Kirk told Carlson how his retweets and user interaction dropped drastically and suddenly in early 2020, and said the revelations of Twitter’s blacklist were proof of what he suspected the social media company was doing all along.

News of the blacklist is the latest to come out of the secret ‘Twitter Files’ documenting the platform’s censorship initiatives, which Elon Musk has begun releasing as a part of his vow to restore Twitter as a safe-haven for free speech.

The latest batch of files were released by Musk to journalist Bari Weiss, who found that conservative commentators such as Kirk and Dan Bongino and others who questioned the prevailing COVID orthodoxy of lockdowns and mask mandates were deliberately put on a ‘search blacklist’ or tabbed ‘do not amplify.’ 

Speaking to Carlson, Kirk said the social media company was censoring him more than terrorist organizations because ‘they saw what I had to say as a direct threat to the regime.’ 

‘Were they told to do this by the federal government?’ he asked, describing how he watched the Twitter change from a social media platform into a ‘Democrat super PAC.’

Kirk detailed to Carlson how his account was being retweeted at least 115,000 times per day before the pandemic. Once he started tweeting skepticism about the effect of lockdown measures however, he said his account interaction dropped ‘off a cliff.’

‘I was called a conspiracy theorist, I was smeared,’ he said, recounting how many reacted to his suggestions at that the time that Twitter may have been censoring his account for his views.

‘Now you see actual verified documents where my Twitter account was labeled as do not amplify, NSFW – which I can only infer means not safe work work?’ Kirk said. 

‘They’re treating my twitter account with more scrutiny and censorship than the prime minister of Iran, than Hamas, than people who do actual terroristic type damage.’

‘Now we evidence to show that’s exactly why my Twitter account the last couple years has been down 95 percent in engagement.

‘They saw what I had to say as a direct threat to the regime.’

‘Were they told to do this by the federal government?’ Kirk asked. 

‘Was my Tweet somehow able to create viral counter messaging in to what hey wanted to see happen in 2020. We may never know.’

‘But Twitter at its best, when it was really something that was worthy of appreciation, and I Hope it gets there soon, was a place where heterodox ideas where able to spread instantaneously with virility and hold powerful people accountable. 

I happened to have one of those accounts for years, and Twitter went out of their way to censor it and suffocate our account.

Kirk told Carlson that Jack Dorsey once personally assured him that his account wasn’t being censored in any way.

But as the pandemic deepened and engagement with Kirk’s account continues to plummet, he said he reached out to Dorsey and other members of Twitter leadership but they went silent on him.

‘You could not get a response out of Twitter,’ he said. ‘It was almost as it became a wholly operated company that changed their modus operandi from being somewhat of social media platform to a Democrat super PAC. 

‘And I don’t think they really cared,’ he added.
