According to complainant Mr. Diaw, R&B singer Brown allegedly attacked him without cause at around three in the morning as he and his group were at the hip-hop Tape nightclub.

Brown is due to perform on 10 more dates in Britain next month – but the tour could be thrown into chaos by the police investigation.

Diaw has launched a civil claim against Brown for $16 million(£12 million) in damages for injuries and losses suffered as a result of the alleged attack.

Detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit are in charge of the investigation.

After being arrested, he is believed to have been brought to a nearby police station to be questioned.

The Met stated: Shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, a 36-year-old male was taken into custody at a Manchester hotel on suspicion of causing serious bodily harm.

He has been placed under arrest and is still there.
