Dan Le Batard Defended Deadspin's Smearing of a Child for 'Blackface,' Then an Old Picture Surfaced

Some people just don’t know when to stop digging. One of those people is the aptly-named Carron J. Phillips, a writer for Deadspin who recently doxxed a child and tried to accuse him of wearing “blackface.”

The story began with the young boy appearing at an NFL game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders. Being a fan of the former, the kid donned a headdress and painted his face in order to look like his favorite team’s mascot. Deadspin then used pictures only showing the black side of his face to accuse him of racism while ignoring, even after it was definitively shown in other photos, that half his face was painted red.

The backlash arrived swiftly, and because Deadspin is an awful outlet, Phillips doubled down. That was expected. What wasn’t expected is that someone else in sports media would be dumb enough to defend what happened. Enter Dan Le Batard, who took to his show on Wednesday and said the following.

“A five-year-old kid at a game has been dressed in face paint and he is wearing Native American gear, he’s at a Chiefs game. Half of his face is red, half of his face is black,” said Le Batard. “‘He should be punished because he’s wearing blackface and you’re only seeing half of his face.’ And then you see, ‘Nope, there’s also red face.’

“The right picked this up and said, ‘Sue Deadspin, bankrupt Deadspin.’ And I can’t help but laugh at the center of this, I can’t help but laugh at the idea that they want them sued for one racism, while the kid is still in full racist garb. The only part of him that’s not intentionally, kind of, racist is the black part! The rest is team colors and he’s going for just being a fan, but the racism is already in there, just not the kind the right is picking up and flogging Deadspin with over a five-year-old kid. Like, the stupidity of this is remarkable.”

Let me get this straight. It is “racism policing” for conservatives to notice that an allegedly racist journalist (here are some of Phillips’ old social media posts) falsely attacked a small child and showed no remorse when exposed, but it’s fine for Deadspin to allow that to happen under their banner in the first place. Do I have that right?

This is one of the dumbest “Republicans pounce” moments I’ve ever witnessed. And then for Le Batard to join in accusing the kid of racism really accentuates just how morally bankrupt he and many in his industry are. If you think the mainstream political press is bad, try paying attention to the sports media. It’s a cesspool of far-left insanity.

Regardless, I’m about to put the cherry on top of this story. After Le Batard’s rant, a picture of him resurfaced, it is a “chef’s kiss” moment.

I can hear the shrieks now: “That’s different because Le Batard wasn’t trying to make any racial statement when he painted his face red and black!”

I’d assume that’s true. Do you know who else had no racist intent when painting his face (and actually has Native American lineage anyway)? The kid that Deadspin doxxed and tried to call a racist. Perhaps Le Batard should focus more on the rot within his own industry, and apparently, his own show, than joining in a pile-on on a young football fan.
