AN ALARMING new video has revealed the shocking confession a woman made to police, giving details on how she allegedly killed a five-year-old boy.
Recently released police body-camera footage features Pammy Maye, 48, describing in disturbing detail how she allegedly suffocated her foster son Darnell Taylor.
Maye, from Columbus, Ohio, was arrested on February 15 outside of Cleveland, just two days after she allegedly suffocated the boy, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
On February 16, Darnell’s body was found in a curbside storm sewer in Columbus.
His death was soon investigated as a homicide, after Maye’s husband had called 911 allegedly claiming that she had killed the boy, according to an affidavit.
Now, police footage shows the moment Maye allegedly confessed to police after being taken into custody.
In the footage, Maye is seen laying in a hospital bed, showing little emotion as she gave details to the detectives.
She described her relationship with the boy, saying “[Darnell] was intimidated by me a lot of times because I was that alpha parent instead of my husband.”
She repeatedly claimed to have killed Darnell, saying at one point, “I had a son, but I took his life.”
One detective can be heard asking her about the actual moment that the boy died, asking if he was moving.
“When I first did it, no,” Maye is heard saying.
“Ten minutes later, I knew he was dead because he wasn’t moving.”
There were few times the Ohio woman showed remorse for her alleged actions, saying it was “so sad.”
At one point, she claims the alleged actions were “premeditated.”
“It’s not like I did it then,” she said.
The video also reveals Maye claiming she killed Darnell in his room and then later hid his body in a closet.
She also claimed that she had been upset with the young boy for eating snacks and candy in his bed.
Maye’s attorney, Sam Shamansky, has not denied the alleged confession.
However, he told local CBS affiliate WBNS that her comments to detectives were not “dispositive of her mental state at the time of the commission of the offense.”
Maye has since pleaded not guilty.
Her legal team is reportedly seeking a private mental evaluation, according to local NBC affiliate WLWT5.
Maye had been Darnell’s foster mother since May 2023, after his biological grandfather Anthony Baines placed him up for adoption.
Baines previously told WBNS that the responsibility for caring for the boy had gotten too much.
He claimed that he gave Darnell to Maye because she was a close friend.
However, she soon stopped contact with Darnell’s biological family.
“We thought maybe she was keeping him from us, so he can be part of their family first,” Baines said.
Before Darnell’s body was discovered, Baines pleaded for Maye to bring him home.
Maye is scheduled to appear in court on April 25.
