He expressed optimism that discussions between former President Donald Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping could lead to enhanced access for American agricultural products in Chinese markets.
Guest host Brian Kilmeade inquired, “Eric, should our aim be decoupling or de-risking?”
Senator Schmitt responded, “I’m in favor of decoupling. American working-class families have suffered the loss of jobs to overseas markets, particularly China, which has significantly weakened our domestic working class. I have faith in President Trump; he’s arguably the most pivotal leader we’ve had on this front in American history. He courageously pointed out China’s exploitative practices, challenging the status quo and the bipartisan acceptance of unfavorable trade agreements. I am hopeful that he will succeed in opening markets for U.S. agriculture, which would be highly beneficial.”
