High School maths teacher threatens to punish pupils after Pride video classroom protest

Video has emerged of a high school teacher threatening to punish pupils after they can be heard protesting against being shown a Pride Month video.

A student at what has been identified as Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California, filmed classmates who can be heard saying ‘Stop,’ and ‘Turn it off.’

One student shouts: ‘Why are you showing this to kids?’

In response, the unnamed teacher says to the pupils: ‘Hey I’ll warn you guys now, if you’re going to be inappropriate, I will have supervision down and give all of you Saturday school for [indiscernible]. So knock it off.’

The clip has now gone viral after someone claiming to be a parent of one of the pupils shared it on social media.

The video was also shared by conservative commentator Robby Starbuck and picked up more than 10 million views.

He said: ‘Parents of kids at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California say this video was played to their kids in math class. The kids clearly didn’t want to watch this pride video so the teacher threatened them with Saturday school to get them to watch it.’

The video begins with an image of the rainbow flag with the words ‘Pride Month’ appearing on the screen. It then shows happy couples and ends with the message: ‘Don’t forget to LOVE each other’.

A local LGBTQ supporter who was upset by the students’ reaction shared the full video on social media. 

The original poster of the video said it was shown in all classes. Starbuck claimed some students told him the video was played in all classes.

It comes as at least five states have been targeted with disturbing hoax bomb threats amid a backlash to Target’s LGBTQ+ Pride product decisions.

The brand pulled some of its products in the face of what it said were ‘threats’ to staffers.

According to the Washington Post, the hoaxes were reported in Oklahoma, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Louisiana, although no explosives were found.

Target said in a statement that law enforcement investigated the threats and determined that the stores are safe. It said all stores are ‘currently open and operating regular hours’. 

In a statement in late May, Target spokeswoman Kayla Castañeda said: ‘Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior.’ 

At the start of June, Walmart said it had not made any changes to its LGBTQ-related merchandise tied to Pride Month, or to security measures in place at its stores, a week after rival Target’s decision to pull some of its products.

‘We haven’t changed anything in our assortment,’ said Latriece Watkins, Walmart’s chief merchandising officer.

There has been a conservative backlash in recent weeks against American brands showing their support for Pride Month and other LGBTQ+ issues. 

Some are against having ‘woke’ sentiments expressed in marketing campaigns.

A transgender model who was banned from the White House on Tuesday after going topless at a Pride Event where she met President Joe Biden has complained about companies shying away from LGBTQ+ influencers.

Rose Montoya, 27, unhooked the top of her dress and grabbed her chest on the South Lawn on Saturday, as someone shouted: ‘Are we topless at the White House?’

Video of the move went viral on social media.
