A WALMART customer has revealed that they refuse to shop at Walmart, as more items are put behind a glass.
The retailer is being slammed on X (formerly known as Twitter) after a user recorded more everyday items being locked away from customers.
“They locked up the underwear and socks at the Walmart I shop at. I will literally not participate in shit like this,” the user said.
“Billion-dollar corporations who can’t stand a few personal items getting stolen so they inconvenience all customers. If it’s locked, I don’t shop.”
The disgruntled social media user revealed there are other places to shop, that offered cheaper prices than Walmart.
“Turns out the socks I buy are less expensive through Amazon anyway, so I’m not bothered waiting for delivery on things.”
Walmart has been incorporating this anti-theft measure into many of its locations.
However, studies have suggested that more customers are being deterred by locked-up items.
A study from Advantage Solutions revealed that 20% of shoppers are now refusing to buy items that are kept behind a glass.
Oftentimes, the shopper felt like that particular item was not worth waiting for.
It found that 15% of customers won’t purchase locked-up health products while 13% of shoppers won’t buy locked-up electronics.
If those customers chose to leave the store without the item they wanted, many of them would look for online alternatives, like Amazon.
However, despite the statistics, shoppers are still reporting that more items are being locked away.
One customer revealed that they couldn’t believe that makeup wipes would now require assistance to purchase.
“They had all but the expensive ones locked away. my bf and I stood there for like 15 minutes waiting for someone to f**king come, like how tf is someone swiping $3 makeup wipes gonna hurt Walmart’s bottom line??” they asked.
“They want us to shop but they make the shopping experience terrible and make everyone feel like they’re inherently criminal, when honestly most shoplifters are doing so out of desperation.”
Another customer claimed that food was even subjected to the anti-theft measure.
“Walmart now has security cages on the steaks,” they wrote in a post.
The shopper included a video, where they could be heard reacting in disbelief as they showed the steak packaging, which appeared to have a fence-like cage around it with an anti-theft locking mechanism.
“Walmart now has the steak locked up — holy s**t, it’s come to this,” they said.
“This is getting bad now, man.”
