A SAM’S Club shopper blasted the wholesaler, claiming she was treated like a criminal after being asked to show her receipt.
The customer raged that she does not use the chain for her grocery shopping.
Donna (@bittlegirldonna) was bemused by the idea of receipt inspections after workers check out items.
“Sam’s Club has employees check you out plus makes you stop on your way out and an employee goes over your receipt and cart,” she fumed in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“It’s insulting to be treated like a criminal.”
Donna boycotted the chain as she said there were other options for her to do her shopping.
Sam’s Club has explained in its membership policies that receipt inspections may be carried out.
The inspections take place to ensure customers have been charged correctly.
A worker may look or scan the items in a cart and have a look at an electronic or paper receipt.
Staffers also have the right to inspect bags, briefcases, and containers of shoppers entering or exiting a warehouse, per the chain.
Donna is not the only worker who admitted she felt like a criminal after shopping at Sam’s Club.
Megs, a mom of four, claimed she had a similar experience.
Sam’s Club is trialing technology designed to eliminate shoppers waiting in line for their receipts to be looked at.
Bosses say the new program will ensure a faster experience for shoppers.
Shoppers will use scan-and-go technology to pay for their goods and the technology which incorporates artificial intelligence will verify the payment.
“We are constantly looking at ways for Sam’s Club to be the most convenient membership club and will continue to prioritize using technology to provide a truly differentiated and delightful experience for our members,” Chris Nicholas, the CEO of Sam’s Club said.
The move to eliminate physical checks has been welcomed by shoppers.
“As a customer myself, I’d love that. Scan & Go is already very smooth, this will elevate the customer experience,” one shopper said.
The technology is being trialed at 10 stores but chiefs hope it will be rolled out to more than 600 outlets by the end of 2024.
Following the news, shoppers have urged Costco to follow Sam’s Club’s lead.
The U.S. Sun has approached Sam’s Club for comment.
